Focus on Patient Privacy The HIPAA Privacy Rule
Overview
This course was developed to enable physicians to meet the privacy standards of the Health Insurance Portability and Acccountability Act (HIPAA).
Objectives
Upon completion of this course, a physician should be able to:
1. Understand why the privacy regulations were developed. 2. Know the impact of the privacy regulations on a health care practice. 3. Identify the necessary actions various health care providers must take to ensure compliance with the HIPAA privacy regulations within the scope of their professional responsibilities.
Target Audience
This course is designed for all physicians, since it affects all who examine and treat patients.
Methodology
This is a self-study course consisting of text and CME test. Physicians should read the course content, answer the test questions and submit the answers for scoring. Those who complete the course with a score of 80 percent or higher will earn a maximum of 3 AMA PRA Category 1 creditsTM.
