Rosemary Gafner, Ed.D. is co-founder and president of MedRisk®, Medical Risk Management, Inc., a Houston-based provider of continuing education and risk management services for healthcare professionals. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Houston, where she earned her doctorate in 1976. Before establishing MedRisk® in 1988, Dr. Gafner was affiliated with St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital and Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center in Houston. She advises hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare providers on interpersonal relationships, medical liability risk reduction and defensible charting. An accomplished educator, author and public speaker, she has presented over 500 risk management workshops to physicians throughout the country. In addition, her books Streetwise!, Streetwise Plus!, Intersection: Managed Care, Medical Ethics, and Risk Management, Risk Management Rounds: Radiology,  Risk Management Essentials for Physicians, RiskAware for Pediatricians, RiskAware for Managed Care, RiskAware for Physicians, RiskAware for Medical Office Professionals, NetAware for Physicians, Risk Management Essentials for Dentists, and RiskAware for Dentists have been used by over 15,000 physicians as a source of information on risk management techniques and malpractice prevention.

Dr. Gafner is an active member of the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education, the American Society for Healthcare Risk Management, and the Greater Houston Society for Healthcare Risk Management, where she has served as chairman of the chapter education committee for four years and currently serves on the board of directors.
