Need
The need for the program was determined from comments from previous course participants and from malpractice insurers' statistics. 

Objectives

When they complete this course, participants should be able to:

1.  Cite the most common motivators that prompt patients to sue.
2.  Detect common communication traps that hinder relationships.
3.  Handle three specific types of problem patient situations.
4.  Develop a plan for strengthening your communication.
5.  Know what should be documented in the medical record.
6.  Know how errors in the chart should be corrected.
7  Understand when and how should late entries be made.
8.  Know what steps should be taken to protect the integrity of the medical record when there are multiple providers.
9.  Detect common communication traps that hinder relationships.
10.  Recognize the influence of cooperative teamwork on liability control.
11.  Develop a plan for strengthening your medical team.
12.  Understand the ethical dilemmas created by managed care organizations’ constraints on medical practice.
13.  Be able to discuss two types of risk associated with practice in a managed care environment.
14.  Be able to analyze a case study to identify the ethical and risk management implications of practice in managed care environment.
